Souls do two jobs in Deadlock: they level you up through Boons and they pay for your build at the shop. Troopers and enemy heroes drop them when they die, and so do the Haunts (the jungle camps) you clear.
Two teams of six fight through three lanes of The Cursed Apple, an alternate early 1900s New York. Every hero comes with a gun and four abilities. You win by taking down the enemy Patron. Getting there means pushing each lane's Guardian and Walker, breaking through the Base Guardians and dropping both Shrines, since the Patron can't be hurt until they fall. What you buy decides how that push goes. The shop sorts items into Weapon, Vitality and Spirit, and buying into a category boosts its stat, so you can lean into gun damage, health or spirit power.

Heroes
Every Deadlock match starts with a hero pick. Each hero brings its own gun, base health and four abilities, and that mix decides whether you charge in, heal from behind, snipe from range or hold ground. Compare health, bullet damage and abilities before you pick one.
Items
Items are what you spend souls on at the Curiosity Shop, split into Weapon, Vitality and Spirit and into price tiers. Cheap components upgrade into stronger items, some are actives you press, and some ask you to imbue one ability. What you buy decides whether your hero hits harder, survives longer or casts more.
Abilities
Every hero unlocks their abilities as their Boons climb, and the ultimate always comes last. Each ability has upgrade tiers bought with Ability Points, and the higher tiers can change how it plays. Check an ability's cooldown, charges and upgrades before you commit your points.
