Mounts are cattle you can ride in Core Keeper. Any cattle animal can carry you once it has a saddle on its back, and each one is turned into a steed in the same way.

What Are Mounts in Core Keeper?
A mount is a cattle animal with a saddle on its back. You don't need a separate vehicle for it. You craft a saddle, put it on a cattle animal, and climb on. The animal stays a mount until you take the saddle off, which gives the saddle back to you and returns the animal to ordinary cattle.
Riding is one more way to get around, next to walking, minecarts, boats and teleporting. You can use whichever one suits the trip.
Which Cattle Can You Ride in Core Keeper?
These cattle can be turned into mounts: Moolin, Bambuck, Strolly Poly, Orex, Dodo, Kelple and Drohmble. Orex lives in the Moss area of the Forgotten Ruins. All of them follow the same riding rules, so what sets them apart is where you find them and what they produce.
Moolin and Bambuck are the usual pick early on, since they're the cattle you're most likely to find in meadows. The rest live in other parts of the world. Each type also makes its own product when it's fed, such as wool from Bambuck, so choose the one that suits what you need.
How to Get a Saddle in Core Keeper
Saddles are made at the Livestock Workbench, which you build at a Basic Workbench for 8 Wood, 2 Copper Bars and 1 Fiber. From there, the regular Saddle takes 8 Iron Bars, 3 Tin Bars and 8 Fiber. Once you have one, walk up to a cattle animal, use the Saddle on it, and climb on.
Only grown animals can be saddled. Young ones, like calves and hatchlings, are too small, so check that yours has grown up before you spend the materials.
Racing Saddle vs Regular Saddle
Both saddles fit any cattle type, so the choice comes down to cost and speed. The Racing Saddle needs 12 Solarite Bars, 5 Gold Bars and 8 Fiber from the same Livestock Workbench. In return, it makes your mount about 16 percent faster than the regular Saddle.
That extra speed is worth the cost if you travel the same routes often. If you don't have Solarite yet, the regular Saddle is the practical choice.
Naming Your Mount and Setting Its Behavior
While you're mounted, open your inventory to reach the mount menu. There you can give your mount a name, which helps when you have several cattle, and choose how it behaves when you're not riding it.
Feeding and Protecting Your Cattle Mounts
Cattle eat food from the ground. Most of them eat crops or small insects, and Kelple eats kelp. A Feeding Tray keeps them fed in a fenced area away from your crops, which matters because cattle will eat crops if they wander into a farm.
Enemies can attack cattle too, so keep them somewhere protected. A Leash lets you lead an animal that isn't saddled. A Cattle Transport Box can carry one in your inventory, though it works only once.
Two adults can also have a young one together, but only when both are well fed and standing close. The young animal then needs time to grow up before it can be saddled.
FAQ
Can I ride baby cattle in Core Keeper?
Not yet. A young animal needs eight meals to grow up, and it can hold only one meal at a time, which it uses up every 20 minutes.
Is one mount faster than the others in Core Keeper?
Not by type. Every cattle mount starts from the same base riding speed, so the saddle is the only thing that changes how fast you go.
