All 12 Aberrant Forms and Combo Finishers in CONTROL Resonant

Updated on November 1, 2026 (3 days ago)

In CONTROL Resonant, the Aberrant is Dylan Faden's shapeshifting melee weapon, and it changes shape depending on how you build it. Each setup combines a Primary form for quick attacks, a Secondary form for heavier hits, and a Combo Finisher that ends a combo with a bigger move. You unlock these as you go, and the picks you make shape how Dylan fights.

Slot

Primary Forms

3 items

Strike

Fast dual-blade attacks build pressure quickly and have a high Critical Chance.

Slot
Primary Form
Combat Role
Fast close-range attacks with high Critical Chance suit short openings and focused pressure.
Unlock
Choose one Primary Form during the prologue; each other Primary Form unlocks at The Gap for 3 Living Shards and adds 5 Aberrant Strength.
Upgrade Notes
Dodge Strike gives a stronger dodge attack. Critical-hit upgrades add Damage and Falter, while later nodes improve Combo Finisher Critical Chance and Damage and scale Strike Damage with Dylan's Health.

Glaive

A broad scythe-like sweep that hits several enemies and creates space.

Slot
Primary Form
Combat Role
Wide sweeps hit groups and push enemies back, trading single-target pressure for reach.
Unlock
Choose one Primary Form during the prologue; each other Primary Form unlocks at The Gap for 3 Living Shards and adds 5 Aberrant Strength.
Upgrade Notes
Branches add Power after opening hits or Dodge Attacks, scale Falter with Dylan's Health, strengthen a Switch Attack and finishers against status-affected enemies, and improve Health Element drops.

Cleave

A flexible axe form with bonus damage from behind and upgrades for airborne targets.

Slot
Primary Form
Combat Role
A balanced axe attack that rewards rear positioning and can set up Lifted follow-ups.
Unlock
Choose one Primary Form during the prologue; each other Primary Form unlocks at The Gap for 3 Living Shards and adds 5 Aberrant Strength.
Upgrade Notes
Dodge Cleave applies Lifted and returns Power from airborne follow-ups. Other nodes raise Damage and Falter against Lifted targets or at full Health, grant Fortified on kills, and boost the form during Dominance.

Slot

Secondary Forms

3 items

Extend

A long-reaching form that rewards timed charges and can sweep a wide area.

Slot
Secondary Form

Long reach and broad coverage help attack several enemies; charging adds Damage and Falter.
Unlock
Choose one Secondary Form early in the story; each other Secondary Form unlocks at The Gap for 2 Living Shards and adds 5 Aberrant Strength.
Upgrade Notes
A perfect charge returns more Power. Later nodes add a long-range 360-degree attack, guarantee a Critical Hit on a fully perfect-charged combo, and add a retreating wide-area Switch Attack.

Drill

A focused drill attack that can stay on a target and build Weakened.

Slot
Secondary Form
Combat Role
Sustained contact damage keeps pressure on one target; charged attacks deal Falter, and an upgrade can build Weakened.
Unlock
Choose one Secondary Form early in the story; each other Secondary Form unlocks at The Gap for 2 Living Shards and adds 5 Aberrant Strength.
Upgrade Notes
Continuous drilling builds Weakened. Tree nodes add a longer third attack, reduce incoming Damage while drilling, and add a Weakened knockback Switch Attack.

Crush

A charged hammer strike for heavy impact, knockdowns and Falter.

What Are Aberrant Forms in CONTROL Resonant?

The Aberrant forms are the shapes the weapon takes in combat, and they come in two slots. Primary forms handle your quick, regular attacks, while Secondary forms handle slower, heavier ones. You pick one form for each slot to set up your basic moveset.

The Primary forms differ mainly in speed and reach. Strike is built for fast hits on a single target, Glaive sweeps through groups, and Cleave rewards attacks from behind. The Secondary forms can all be charged for a stronger hit. Because the two slots work together, the best match depends more on your style than on any single form's numbers.

How Combo Finishers Work in Combat

A Combo Finisher is the move that closes out your Primary combo. Owning a finisher isn't enough on its own, because it has to be set in the Combo slot of your loadout before you can use it.

Finishers rely on a few terms you'll see often. Falter is the meter that builds on enemies, and filling it opens them up to an Execution. Lifted is the airborne status that some moves apply, and hitting a Lifted enemy restores Power, the resource that keeps your abilities running during a fight.

How to Unlock Aberrant Forms and Combo Finishers

You choose your first Primary form in the prologue and your first Secondary form early in the story. Everything after that is unlocked in The Gap with Living Shards, a limited resource that comes from story and side quests, bosses, Resonant hunts and vendors. Vendors sell them for Source, which mostly comes from defeating enemies, so buying shards takes real effort.

Combo Finishers have one more requirement: you need Aberrant Strength 15 before any of them can be unlocked. Every form or finisher you unlock raises your Aberrant Strength, so early unlocks also move you toward your first finisher.

Which Aberrant Forms and Combo Finishers Are Worth Picking First

Strike and Crush are the most common starting picks. Strike is the fastest Primary form and has a high Critical Chance. Crush is most often called the best Secondary form, because it hits hardest and builds the most Falter, though its swings are slow.

Among finishers, Concussive Beatdown and Uppercut Surge come up the most. Concussive Beatdown is the sturdier pick against single tough enemies and bosses, with strong Falter. Uppercut Surge is built around Lifted enemies, which makes it a good choice when you want to keep enemies off the ground and your Power topped up.

Pacing matters too. Starting with one or two finishers is a sensible approach, since each one costs a shard and shards are limited.

Upgrading Forms and Finishers

Each form and finisher has its own upgrade tree in The Gap. Upgrades change how a form plays rather than just adding damage, such as a stronger dodge attack, charges that come out instantly after a finisher, or blades that explode into fire. Planning a few trees around the forms you actually use gets more out of your resources than spreading them thin.

FAQ

Q.

Can any Primary form use any Combo Finisher?

Yes. Finishers aren't tied to one form, so you can pair any of them with Strike, Glaive or Cleave. Some matches work better, though. Wide Edge suits Glaive, since both are built to hit groups.

Q.

How do I reach Aberrant Strength 15?

Unlock more forms in The Gap. Each new form you unlock raises your Aberrant Strength, and progress from any mix of Primary and Secondary forms counts toward the total.

Q.

Does dodging change how the Aberrant attacks?

Yes, through upgrades. Strike's tree adds a stronger dodge attack, Dodge Cleave launches enemies into the air and applies Lifted, and Glaive's tree adds Power after Dodge Attacks.
