Balatro Vouchers are upgrades you buy in the shop during a run, which is one full game from start to finish. Each one changes how a run plays out, from the shop itself to the number of hands you get. Players can collect and keep track of every Voucher in the game.

How Balatro Vouchers Work
Once you buy a Voucher, its effect stays active for the rest of the run, with nothing more to do. Every Voucher belongs to either the Base group or the Upgrade group. A Base is the starting version, and an Upgrade is the follow-up that builds on it.
An Upgrade doesn't replace its Base. It adds to what the Base already does, so owning both gives you both effects together.
Where to Buy Vouchers in the Shop
The shop opens after every blind you beat, and it has one Voucher slot. A Voucher Tag adds another Voucher to the next shop, so that shop can offer two. Every Voucher has the same base price, and shop discounts can change what you actually pay.
Base Vouchers You Can Buy Early
Base Vouchers are open to you from the very start, so one can show up in the first shop you see.
Early buys matter later, too. Each Base also leads to its Upgrade, so passing on a Base early can cost you more than its price suggests.
How to Unlock Upgraded Vouchers
Upgrades have to be earned first. Each one has its own unlock condition, and they vary a lot. Some ask you to spend $2,500 in total at the shop, others ask you to play or discard thousands of cards, and some ask you to reach a certain Ante. An Ante is one stage of the run, and each one ends with a Boss Blind.
Unlocking an Upgrade isn't the whole story, though. Its Base also has to be bought earlier in the same run before the Upgrade can appear in the shop. That's why meeting the unlock condition alone doesn't put the Upgrade on offer in your next shop.
Which Balatro Vouchers Matter Most
Some Vouchers shape a whole run because they change the shop or your limits. Overstock Plus, Liquidation, Reroll Glut, Money Tree, and Antimatter change what the shop can offer, what things cost, how much interest you can earn, or how many Jokers you can carry.
Hand and discard Vouchers, such as Grabber and Wasteful, add an extra hand or discard in every round for the rest of the run. Hieroglyph and Petroglyph are a trade-off, since they lower the Ante but take a hand and a discard away from each round.
If you like building around one poker hand, Telescope and Observatory reward you for building around the hand you play most. Crystal Ball and Omen Globe widen your options for consumable cards, like Tarot and Planet cards.
Blank is an odd one. It has no effect when you buy it, but buying it is what counts toward unlocking Antimatter.
FAQ
Can you reroll Vouchers in Balatro?
No. A Voucher can't be rerolled. The one on offer stays through the shops in that Ante until you buy it, and it's replaced once you beat the Boss Blind.
Can you buy the same Voucher twice in one run?
No. Once you've bought a Voucher, you can't buy it again for the rest of that run. A new run starts over, so you can buy it again there.
Do you have to unlock Upgrades again every run?
No. Once you meet an Upgrade's unlock condition, it stays unlocked on your profile, so you only have to earn it once.
