All 140 Career Progress Tiers in Grand Theft Auto Online

Updated on September 26, 2026 (27 days ago)

Career Progress turns GTA Online's major activities into 35 four-tier challenge ladders. This collection keeps each tier attached to its activity, category, complete requirement, and reward so repeated Tier 1 to Tier 4 labels never lose their context.

How the tier ladder works

Career Progress gives each career area a four-tier ladder. Tier 1 usually starts the activity or opens its first objective, Tier 2 adds repeat completions, survival, or basic volume, Tier 3 pushes Hard difficulty, full sets, bonuses, or performance, and Tier 4 asks for deeper mastery such as Platinum Awards, earnings, time, accuracy, damage, approaches, or high-volume work. The exact mix changes by activity, so read the Overview text instead of assuming every ladder uses the same test.

Each card combines the activity and tier in its name, such as KnoWay Out — Tier 1 or Gunrunning — Tier 4. The category groups related ladders, while the requirement field preserves the objectives that must all be completed for that tier.

Plan the mission and business goals

The mission groups cover activities such as KnoWay Out, Oscar Guzman Flies Again, The Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid, Project Overthrow, Operation Paper Trail, A Superyacht Life, Last Play, Repo Work, Dispatch, and Lowrider. Their goals move from starting a mission chain to no-death runs, Hard completions, accuracy or damage targets, timed clears, and approach-specific challenges. Make a safe familiarisation run first, then attempt the stricter conditions when you know the route and equipment.

Property and business goals cover Money Fronts, Agents of Sabotage, Bottom Dollar Bounties, The Chop Shop, The Contract, Los Santos Drug Wars, After Hours, Air Freight Cargo, Gunrunning, Vehicle Cargo, Biker work, Special Cargo, and Los Santos Tuners. These mix setup, ownership, sourcing, sales, upgrades, contracts, earnings, and award requirements. If a goal says to own or set up a property, do that before building a repeat-work plan; if it asks for sales or earnings, let the normal business loop work toward the target instead of forcing a risky single session.

Heists and competitive modes use a different rhythm. Cayo Perico, the Diamond Casino Heist, the Doomsday Heists, and the classic heists include leader, approach, Hard, Elite, crew, and Criminal Mastermind requirements. Arena Wars, Adversary Modes, Survivals, Races, and Deathmatches shift the focus to participation, wins, waves, streaks, race types, fastest laps, or player-versus-player performance. Read the wording before launching because a leader run, a solo wave target, a same-crew goal, and a win streak require different preparation.

Vehicle and weapon goals are their own planning track. They ask for ownership, class coverage, upgrades, customisation, weapon types, Mk II equipment, shooting challenges, and visits to specific services. Keep a budget for modifications and use the named workshop, range, or vendor when the objective calls for it.

Read rewards beside their tiers

Every tier records its linked reward on the same card. Many early rewards are clothing or cosmetic pieces, while higher tiers can award vehicles or other substantial unlocks. The reward is the result of completing that tier, not a separate challenge row. Use the in-game Career tab to confirm claimed and outstanding rewards.

Career Progress is also separate from Career Builder. Career Builder chooses an opening business path for a character, while Career Progress tracks long-term goals across GTA Online. The Career tab in the game remains the final check for live status and edition availability, and these goals should not be treated as a single universal Story Mode completion meter.

Business ladders span Money Fronts, Agents of Sabotage, Bottom Dollar Bounties, the Salvage Yard, Agency, Acid Lab, Nightclub, Hangar, Bunker, Vehicle Cargo, Biker businesses, and Special Cargo. Setup, sourcing, sales, awards, and lifetime earnings are tracked separately within each four-tier ladder.

Heist ladders cover Cayo Perico, Diamond Casino, Doomsday, and the original apartment heists. Leader completions, approaches, Elite Challenges, same-crew runs, and Criminal Mastermind conditions require deliberate planning.

Recreation currently covers Los Santos Tuners and the Diamond Casino & Resort. Membership, property setup, races, contracts, awards, and repeat activity goals build toward their higher-tier rewards.

Arena War, Adversary Modes, Survivals, Racing, and Deathmatches track participation, wins, streaks, waves, event types, and competitive performance. Check the exact mode and session requirement before starting a grind.

Vehicle Enthusiast and Weapons Expert focus on ownership, modifications, classes, Mk II equipment, ammunition, and shooting-range challenges. These ladders often require both spending and activity milestones.

FAQ

Q.

What are the Career Progress tiers?

They are a four-tier ladder for each career area. Early tiers usually start the activity and build basic progress, while later tiers add Hard, performance, earnings, time, award, or high-volume goals.

Q.

Why does Tier 1 appear repeatedly?

Each of the 35 activities has its own Tier 1 through Tier 4 ladder. Every card includes the activity name, category, requirements, and reward so the repeated tier number remains unambiguous.

Q.

What should I do before attempting a strict Tier 3 or Tier 4 goal?

Learn the activity on a normal run first, then plan the specific condition: Hard difficulty, no deaths, accuracy, damage, time, approach, earnings, or awards. The wording tells you which preparation matters.

Q.

Are the listed rewards additional challenges?

No. Each reward belongs to the tier shown on the same card. Completing that tier unlocks the clothing, vehicle, or other reward; it is not counted as another Career Progress objective.

Q.

Is Career Progress the same as Career Builder?

No. Career Builder selects an opening business path for a character. Career Progress is the longer-term challenge system that tracks missions, businesses, heists, modes, vehicles, weapons, and rewards.

Q.

Can I complete every Career Progress goal solo?

Not necessarily. Goals that mention a leader, another player, a same crew, or a competitive mode need the matching session setup. For other goals, check the activity prompt and the Career tab for the live requirement.
