Rockstar's Extended Look for Grand Theft Auto VI shows how the open-world crime game plays: third-person shootouts with cover, car theft, police chases, quick switches between the two lead characters, Jason and Lucia, and a wide range of activities across the state of Leonida. The video was captured entirely in-game on PS5, but it moves back and forth between playable moments and cinematic transitions, so not every shot is something you control. It shows what each system looks like, but it doesn't explain all of them.
GTA 6 Combat and Cover in the Extended Look
Shooting is the most polished-looking part of the video, though it doesn't reinvent third-person combat. Jason and Lucia are both shown with pistols, shotguns and automatic rifles, and each has their own weapon wheel. During a fight, either of them can also swipe up a weapon dropped by a downed enemy and use it right away.
Cover plays a clear role. In one apartment hallway, Jason takes cover while he and Lucia peek out to fire and lay down covering fire. The footage shows characters taking cover and firing from behind it, which makes that approach a central part of how these fights are staged.

Enemies don't always go down right away. Several gunfights show enemies injured or downed without dying immediately, and in one fight Jason shoots an enemy in the legs to take him out of the action without killing him. Hit reactions and falls look more detailed than in GTA 5.
One encounter slows the action down, with a meter in the top-left corner of the screen visible at the same time. In that same fight, an enemy's body is highlighted with red and yellow zones. The video doesn't explain what the meter does or what the colors mean, so these are visible details rather than confirmed mechanics.
Near the end, one fight uses a quick-time prompt with two options on screen, which feels more old-school than the rest of the combat. The video doesn't go far enough to show how each option plays out.
Car Theft and Vehicle Options in GTA 6
In earlier GTA games, a single button press was often enough to open a car door and drive off. The Extended Look shows a different setup in one car-entry scene, with two on-screen options: "Slim Jim" and "Smash Window." That gives you a choice in how you get in, but the video doesn't spell out what each option changes once the car is open.

This is one car in one scene, so don't treat it as a rule for every vehicle. The footage doesn't show whether all parked cars open the same way, or whether other vehicle types need special tools or progress first.
Vehicles are part of the action beyond theft, too. The video shows driving, racing, police pursuits and characters firing from a moving car. In one scene, Jason fires from the back seat during a chase, and later he shoots down a helicopter that way.
Cars can also burn. A Molotov attack sets one on fire, and the flames spread across the vehicle.
Police Chases and the Wanted Level in GTA 6
Police pursuits take up a large part of the video, and a wanted indicator is on screen during them. The video doesn't state the highest Wanted level, and it doesn't explain how the level climbs or how police find you. The footage fits the classic setup, where crimes draw attention and more attention brings more heavily armed police, but the details are left open.
During a chase, Jason and Lucia can shoot out the tires of pursuing police cars. In one pursuit, a police car tumbles and crashes after being shot, and the video presents it as a big, cinematic moment.

The chases also show Jason and Lucia moving between vehicles. In one part, the pair drive past a group of police cruisers without drawing their attention. The video doesn't show whether switching cars reliably shakes off police, so this is one moment in the footage rather than a guaranteed way out.
Side Activities and Minigames in the Extended Look
The montage shows a lot to do outside the main missions. Some of it is driving and sports, and some of it looks like it could affect the characters. The main activities shown are:
- Racing: street races, dirt-bike races, and races on a real track with cars and bikes.
- Water: boats, fanboats, jet skis and canoes on the bodies of water around Leonida.
- Diving: swimming and scuba diving, with fish visible under the surface.
- Base jumping: Lucia runs off a skyscraper, opens her parachute and drifts over Vice City.
- Basketball: a game shown in the footage.
- Gym: Lucia works out on a bench press, with alternating L2 and R2 prompts on screen.
- Home: Jason opens a fridge with selectable food and drinks, while a parody ad plays on a nearby TV.
The gym and fridge scenes stand out because they look like they could change something about the characters, but the video doesn't show any effect. It also doesn't say which of these activities are open to play in free roam. The footage shows what exists in the game world, not necessarily what you can do whenever you like.

Map, HUD and Switching Between Jason and Lucia
The story is set in Vice City and across the state of Leonida, and the footage covers parts of both. Scenes show city streets, beaches, waterways and nightlife districts, along with bayside and river areas and rural, wetland scenery. The video only shows parts of the world, so it doesn't reveal the full map or how large it is.
The on-screen interface includes a minimap, health and status bars, a weapon and ammo display, and button prompts that appear when an action is available. In combat, the equipped weapon icon sits in the top-right corner, a placement that matches GTA 4.
Switching between Jason and Lucia is shown briefly. The transition takes only a few seconds, with a flash and a camera sweep across the city before it drops back down on the other character.
