Named and legendary weapons and gear are unique items in Wartales, each with its own name and a special skill or passive effect that regular equipment doesn't have. The group covers weapons, shields, off-hands, helmets, belts, backpacks and animal accessories. You can find them in tombs, Sepulchres, arenas, Vanquish contracts, boss fights and quests, and some come from crafting recipes added by DLC. Many are worth the effort, but knowing how they level up and where they come from helps you decide which ones to chase.

How Named and Legendary Gear Works
Legendary pieces are the easiest to spot, because their titles show up in purple in the item description. That makes them quick to pick out from the rest of your loot.
Legendary weapons also level up with the character who wields them, so their bonuses grow as that character does. A legendary weapon given to a companion early on can keep paying off for the rest of the game. It also means the numbers you see elsewhere may not match your own fighter, since the stats depend on level.
Where Named and Legendary Gear Comes From
Most named and legendary pieces come from tombs, region bosses and arena brawls, so those are the places to focus on when you're hunting for them. Sepulchres hold rewards of their own, and quests and Vanquish contracts add more. Dagan's Hammer, for example, comes from Tiltren Tomb, while Mutiny is a reward for a Vanquish contract against Eitlingarde's Followers.
Knowing the source matters because most pieces are tied to one specific tomb, boss, arena or mission. That lets you plan a route toward the piece you want instead of clearing everything and hoping it drops.
Arena of Legends Gear
Arenas are a major source of named gear, and the Arena of Legends stands out because each of its leagues hands out a piece of its own. Its rewards include the Saga shield, the Helm of Legends, the Champion's Buckle, Rod Left-Hand's Glove and the Trophy of Legends, so it pays to keep climbing the leagues once your party can handle harder fights.
Expansion Gear and Beast Weapons
Several expansions add named gear of their own, including Pirates of Belerion, The Skelmar Invasion, The Curse of Rigel and Fires in the Capital. Fires in the Capital adds its own legendary weapons and helmets.
The Beast Hunt is built around crafting. Once you defeat the Beast, its remains become forging materials, and the expansion's recipes turn them into a set of Beast weapons. The Pits takes a different path, since its fights are underground battles that pay out reputation, rewards and exclusive items.
How Lectern Research Works on Purple Antiquities
Antiquities are items you find in tombs, and you can't equip them as they are. Purple antiquities are the important ones, since researching them at a Lectern can turn them into legendary weapons. The Lectern is built at your camp and unlocks as you move through the Mysteries and Wisdom path, but it does nothing until a Scholar is assigned to it.
Research moves forward with each rest, so a purple piece takes several rests to finish. Not every tomb find becomes a weapon, though, because some turn into antiquities that only sell. Blue and yellow pieces are mostly worth selling, which is why purple ones are the usual place to start.
Which Named and Legendary Gear Is Worth Using
The right piece depends on the job, so pick by what your party needs. For area damage, Dagan's Hammer is a strong choice against groups. Its skill hits every enemy in an area, and it strikes up to three times when it reaches two or more targets. Against a single tough enemy, though, it's a weaker pick.
Mutiny works as another area option, with a swing that covers a circle around the wielder. When it hits two or more enemies, they also take Vulnerability. Nepti's Axe is the one-handed axe to reach for when you want a wide sweep.
For single targets, Traitor's Axe stands out because it can force your oils to trigger. Clink's Sword is another single-target pick, since its Triple Strike hits three times and the third hit knocks the target back.
For support, the Trophy of Legends belt lets the wearer take two base actions in the same turn once per fight. You don't need every named piece, so pick the ones that fill a real gap in your party.
FAQ
What does the Indomitable One do?
It's a bow whose attack hits a line of enemies in an area, so it works best when enemies stand in a row. Its critical hits push the target back, which can knock an enemy out of position.
Can every class use the Beast weapons?
Yes, as long as the weapon type suits the class. The Beast set covers axes, a bow, a crossbow, a dagger, falchions, maces, a hunting spear, a brawling claw and a targe, so nearly every fighter in your roster has a Beast piece they can use.
