Specializations are the signature abilities in THE FINALS, a team-based shooter where players, called contestants, compete in arenas that can be almost entirely destroyed. Each one is built around a single job, such as a cloak, a grappling hook, a healing beam or a turret. They sit alongside your weapons and gadgets in your loadout, and each build, Light, Medium and Heavy, has its own set. Knowing what each one does and which build it belongs to makes it easier to choose a loadout that suits how you play.

How Light, Medium and Heavy Builds Use Specializations
Every loadout in THE FINALS is built from a weapon, some gadgets and a specialization. Each build gets its own set of specializations, so the ones you can use depend on the build you pick. That split matters because the builds play very differently.
Light builds are the smallest and fastest, but they can't take much damage. Their specializations are about staying hidden, dodging and moving around the arena quickly. Cloaking Device and Evasive Dash fit that pattern, and True Sight lets you see enemies through smoke.
Medium builds are the all-rounders, strong in mid-range fights with average health and speed. Their specializations lean toward support. Healing Beam keeps teammates alive, and Guardian Turret adds a deployable turret that helps hold an area.
Heavy builds have the most health and move the slowest, so their specializations are about breaking things and holding ground. Charge 'N' Slam can break through floors and structures, and Mesh Shield helps defend objectives and teammates.
How Specialization Charges and Cooldowns Work
Specializations are strong, so the game limits how often you can use them. Most run on charges or cooldowns, and the rules differ from one to the next. Evasive Dash has a set number of charges, each recharging on its own timer, while Grappling Hook's cooldown depends on how long the grapple was active. Cloaking Device uses an energy meter instead, draining slowly when you're still or crouching and quickly when you're running.
Guardian Turret has its own timers, with a short wait after you pick it up and a much longer one if it gets destroyed. These limits decide when you can use a tool. An ability that's ready at the right moment is worth far more than one you've already spent, so timing matters as much as the ability itself.
How to Unlock Specializations
Specializations come bundled into Playstyles, which are ready-made contestant setups. Each Playstyle bundles a specialization, a weapon and three gadgets into one setup, so you get a complete loadout rather than collecting each part one by one.
You begin with a few Playstyles already unlocked. A Playstyle Token opens one more of your choice, and more tokens arrive as you play until every Playstyle is available.
How to Choose the Right Specialization
Start with the build that matches how you like to play, since that decides the kind of job you'll be doing most. Then think about what your team is missing. A mix of roles usually works better than a group where everyone does the same job, so check whether your team already has someone covering support, defense or mobility.
Don't worry about getting it perfect. Try a few Playstyles to see which roles you enjoy, since you don't have to stick with the first one you pick.
FAQ
Does leveling up a specialization make it stronger?
No. Using a specialization in matches earns mastery XP for it, and leveling up unlocks a cosmetic customization rather than better stats.
How do I activate a specialization?
Press the specialization trigger, which is Q on PC, R1 on PlayStation and RB on Xbox. For Cloaking Device and True Sight, pressing it again turns the ability off early.
Can other players shut down a specialization?
Yes. A Glitch Grenade temporarily stops anyone in its area from using their specializations and gadgets.
