The editor tools in Roblox's My Movie are the panels, buttons and timeline you use in Create mode to build a short film. They let you place avatars and pictures, add text and sound, and give everything movement, one clip at a time. Once you know what each one does and how they work together, your first movie is much easier to finish.

What Are the Editor Tools in My Movie?
The editor tools are everything you use inside Create mode to put a film together. The main set lives in the Tools panel, which holds the Pictures, Text, Sound and Avatars buttons, along with a small Invite button. Together they cover the whole job: placing characters and pictures, giving them motion, adding words and sound, and putting the scenes in order.
Some tools carry the story and others add the finishing touches. Avatars are the characters who act out your scenes, so they're the heart of most clips. Backgrounds set the place, Animate is what gets things moving, and text and sound shape what viewers read and hear.
How the Timeline and Slides Work
The timeline lines up your movie's scenes from start to finish. Each scene is a clip, which the game also calls a slide. Anything you add attaches to the clip you have selected, so pick the right one before you reach for a tool.
The plus button adds a new scene in one of two ways. New slide gives you a blank clip to start from scratch. Copy slide makes a duplicate that starts where the last clip's animation ends, which is handy when the next scene carries on from where the last one stopped.
A copy is separate from the original, though. If you edit the first clip's animation later, the copy doesn't change with it, so check your copies after you make a change.
How to Add and Place Avatars and Pictures
Avatars places Roblox characters into your scene as 3D models, so you can stage a scene with a full cast. Poses come in themed packs too, which gives you more ways to pose a character.
Pictures holds two kinds of extras. Stickers are short animations that play on a loop, and they come in themed packs. Backgrounds give each clip one ready-made scene to sit behind your characters.
If you want your own image in a movie, upload it to Roblox as a decal first. Then paste the decal's ID into the Pictures search, and the picture can go into your scene from there.
Select any object and a box appears with Delete, Rotate and Resize handles, so you can turn, resize or remove it without starting over. Resize a picture past its opposite edge and it flips, which is a quick way to mirror it. Undo and Redo each step back or forward through up to 20 actions, so a bad move is easy to reverse.
How to Add Text, Voices and Sound
Text is where your dialogue and captions go. Each piece of text can use a text-to-speech voice, which reads the words aloud, and you can choose from Cody, Harmony, Lassy, Onunu, Poppy and Samdroid. A text can only have one voice, so pick the one that fits who's speaking.
The Style menu gives your words their look, with a choice of fonts and colours, plus bold, italics and an outline. An outline helps text stand out over a busy background, so use it when your words sit on a detailed scene.
Sound comes in two parts. Music gives a clip a single track, either original music made for the game or something you find in a search of Roblox's public audio. Effects add up to 3 sound effects per clip from Roblox's audio library, and they hit hardest when you save them for the big moments.
How to Make Objects Move With Animate
Animate is what makes an object move. You can give it movement, turning, growing or fading, and you can pick any of these for the object you're working on.
Animation Style controls how the motion speeds up or slows down. Smooth Out is the default, which is a sensible place to start. Try a couple of styles on the same object before you settle on one.
Timings lets you stack up to 4 animations on one object, so it can move, turn and fade in order. It's locked at first, and until it opens, one animation per object is all you need. Preview after each change either way, since a single move is much easier to fix than a stack of them.
Which Tools Unlock as You Make More Movies and What to Do First
Some tools wait on how many movies you've made. Stickers open after two movies, Backgrounds after three, and Timings after four.
Your first movie is the time to learn the basics with the Tools panel. Put together a few clips with avatars, text and sound, give objects one animation each, and preview the film to check that it plays the way you intended. Keep one main character or object in focus on each clip so viewers know where to look.
When Stickers open, you'll have a new set of extras for your scenes, and once Backgrounds open, you'll have ready-made settings to pick from. By the time Timings opens, you'll already know how single animations behave, which makes stacking them much easier.
What Tickets Pay For
Tickets are what you spend on the packs the editor tools use. The General sticker pack is free, but other sticker packs, background packs and pose packs all cost Tickets. Buy only the packs you'll actually use, so your Tickets go toward the scenes that need them.
How to Preview and Publish Your Movie
Play runs your movie inside the editor, so you can check the timing and order before anyone else sees it. Watch the whole film through at least once, and listen for sound that jumps from loud to quiet between clips.
When it's ready, Publish shares your movie. If you publish during a shared session, it plays for everyone in that session. You'll find your movies in My Movies, under the Movies menu.
FAQ
How do I unlock Stickers and Backgrounds?
Stickers open after you've made two movies, and Backgrounds open after three, so there's nothing extra to do but keep making films. Once they're open, the General sticker pack is free, while the other packs cost Tickets.
How do I add my own picture to a movie?
Upload your image to Roblox as a decal, then copy its ID and paste it into the Pictures search. Choose a clear image with one main subject, since it's easier to read on screen at the size it appears in your scene.
How do I make one object do more than one move?
Give the object an animation with Animate, then use Timings to stack up to 4 animations on it. Timings opens after four movies, so until then, one animation per object is the limit. Preview after each addition to catch any move that clashes with the one before it.
How many sound effects can a clip hold?
A clip can hold up to 3 sound effects from Roblox's audio library. Music works separately, since each clip also has one music track on top of those effects.
