You fire balls up the screen to bounce them off monsters in BALL x PIT, a roguelite that blends a brick-breaker with a monster-fighting dungeon crawl. Kenny Sun and Friends developed it, and Devolver Digital published it when it launched on October 15, 2025. A meteor wiped out the city of Ballbylon and left a deep pit behind. You play as an adventurer who heads into that pit to search for the riches the meteor scattered.
Each run starts when you choose an adventurer and head into the pit. You fire balls up the screen to bounce them off the monsters slowly moving toward you, because any monster that reaches the bottom hurts your adventurer, and the run ends once that damage gets too high. Defeated monsters leave gems that fill a level meter, and each level-up lets you add a new ball, upgrade one you already have, or take a passive item. Those picks shape your attacks for the rest of the run. Once balls reach level 3, you can fuse two of them together or evolve them into a stronger ball at the Fusion Reactor.
When a run ends, whether you finish it or run out of health, your adventurer heads back to New Ballbylon, a small village beside the pit. There you spend the gold and blueprints you brought back, along with wheat, wood and stone harvested around town, on building and upgrading structures. Those buildings give every hero permanent bonuses and unlock new heroes. Over time, you work toward going deeper, because the gears you earn by clearing levels power the Pit Lift down to new levels with new monsters and bosses.

Special Balls
Special balls are the balls with their own built-in effects, such as fire, poison, freezing, and lightning, and they play a big part in how each run turns out. They come in two groups: base special balls, which you collect during runs or start with, and evolved balls, which you make at the Fusion Reactor from specific level 3 balls. Most evolved balls use two base balls, but some need evolved balls as ingredients, and a few take three or four at once.
Characters
BALL x PIT has a full roster of playable characters, and The Warrior is the only one available from the start. Most characters come with their own starting ball and a special trait, and most are unlocked by building their house from a blueprint found while playing certain levels. Characters gain experience as you play them, and the Matchmaker building lets you bring a second character into a run.
Passives
Passives are run-based upgrades that sit alongside your character and balls, adding effects like extra damage, healing, and allies. Each run gives you a limited number of passive slots, and each passive can be leveled up to level 3. Many are available from the first map, while others unlock by clearing certain maps or by needing a specific ball. Certain combinations of passives can be evolved together at the Fusion Reactor.
Buildings
Buildings are the structures you unlock, build and upgrade in BALL x PIT. They split into Economy buildings that gather resources, Warfare buildings that strengthen your whole team, and Housing buildings that unlock new characters. You unlock buildings with blueprints, which mostly drop from enemies and bosses during specific levels. Building and upgrading them takes resources: gold comes back to you from runs, while wheat, wood and stone are harvested around New Ballbylon.
BALL x PIT gameplay tips
- Early in a run, put your effort into movement and positioning rather than raw damage. Your balls matter most once they evolve, and staying alive until then is what gets you there.
- Catch balls as they come back. A caught ball can be fired again right away instead of waiting to bounce back on its own.
- Get balls to level 3 before you try fusion or evolution, since both need them at that level. For example, once Burn and Iron are both level 3, evolving them makes the Bomb, which deals heavy area damage.
- In the town, place your first buildings close together in a tight U shape. Buildings that sit near each other mean your workers move between them more often, so more resources come in.
- Spend resources on the buildings that unlock new heroes between runs. Each hero starts with its own set of balls, which gives you different ways to play, and the buildings also carry permanent bonuses.
