All 19 ores in Minecraft

Updated on (about 1 hour ago)

Ores supply minerals and materials used for equipment, building and circuits. Compare the tool needed to recover a drop before choosing where and how to mine.

How to use this collection

Generation uses Y coordinates. Drops show base items without a complete Fortune calculation. Mining requirements describe the minimum harvest tier, not mining speed.

Mining requirements and drops

An ore can require both a pickaxe and a sufficient harvest tier. Breaking it with an unsuitable tool may destroy the block without giving its listed material. The drop field describes the base item, while enchantments and other drop conditions can change the quantity.

Silk Touch and processing

Silk Touch can preserve an ore block instead of giving its normal mined material. Read the entry because some blocks already drop themselves. Processing describes furnace or blast-furnace recipes for the block; it is a separate route from mining its natural drop.

Reading generation bands

Java height bands come from ore placement rules. Several bands can apply to the same ore, and their distributions are not interchangeable. A uniform range distributes attempts differently from a trapezoid range. Replacement blocks, biomes and exposed-air restrictions can affect where an attempt produces ore. The listed heights do not guarantee an ore at a particular coordinate.

Edition differences

Select Java or Bedrock before reading mining and drop rules. Detailed generation bands on this page describe Java. Bedrock entries include independently checked mining, Silk Touch and processing facts, with generation details left empty when they are not recorded.

FAQ

Q.

Does the listed Y range guarantee ore?

No. A placement range describes generation attempts. Biomes, replacement blocks and other rules affect the result.

Q.

Should I smelt every ore block?

Compare its normal mining drop and processing output. Smelting a preserved block is a separate option and can give a different quantity from mining with enchantments.
