Enchantments already on the gear
Book 1
Book enchantments
Supports one existing item and up to seven enchanted books, including multi-enchantment books. Prior-work level increases after repairs and book combinations. A merge adds one to the larger input level; it does not add both histories together. Conflicting or unsuitable enchantments are rejected. The planner favors the highest final combined levels, then the lowest total level cost. Repairs, renaming, Creative mode, and modded enchantments are outside this plan.
How to use this tool
Select your equipment and enter the enchantments already on it. Add up to seven enchanted books, including every enchantment on each book. Enter prior-work levels, then find a combining order.
Enter the real prior work
Anvil use leaves a prior-work penalty on an item or book. If the prior-work level is n, its penalty is 2^n - 1. Combining two inputs raises the larger prior-work level by one. It is not the total number of operations across both inputs. Repairs and previous book merges matter. A newly obtained book does not gain prior work just because it already contains an enchantment. This calculator asks for prior-work levels rather than raw penalty numbers.
Follow the slot order
Each step specifies the left and right slots. Swapping them can change the cost, and your equipment must remain the kept item. The planner includes each input's penalty, transferred enchantment levels, and the enchanted-book multipliers in the verified data. Survival operations costing 40 or more levels are rejected.
Supported plans
The search considers all supported merge orders within its stated input and computation bounds. Equal-level books can combine into higher levels, up to the enchantment's maximum. It prefers the highest total final enchantment levels and then minimizes levels spent. Incompatible or unsuitable enchantments stop the plan rather than disappearing from the output. Renaming, durability repair, item-to-item merges, and Creative mode costs are outside its scope.
This calculator uses Java Edition rules. Bedrock anvil costs are not included.
FAQ
Can I include gear that is already enchanted?
Yes. Add those enchantments under existing gear, and enter the gear's prior-work level.
Can one book have several enchantments?
Yes. Enter every enchantment on that book. The tool rejects conflicts and unsuitable enchantments.
Are levels the same as experience points?
No. Levels cost more points as they rise. The total is levels spent across the listed operations.
Why is my plan too expensive?
Existing prior work and transferred enchantments can push an operation to 40 levels. Reduce the inputs or use gear or books with less prior work.
