Java advancements organize objectives into branches with tasks, goals and challenges. The parent and criteria determine how an objective fits your progress, while explicit rewards are separate from the display icon.

Follow the required groups
A Java advancement can require several condition groups. Complete at least one condition in each required group. Objectives involving many biomes, foods or mobs name their required sets, which can be narrower than the full set of registered identities.
Read the branch and reward
The parent identifies an objective’s place in its branch. Frame type distinguishes a task, goal or challenge. Hidden objectives can become visible after their conditions reveal them, but visibility is separate from permission to attempt the objective.
Rewards describe explicitly granted experience, recipes or other benefits. The display icon does not establish an item reward. Internal recipe-unlock definitions without an advancement display are outside the displayed advancement roster.
FAQ
Does Adventuring Time require every biome in the biome collection?
No. It requires the biomes named by that advancement. Read its criteria list for the exact required set in the checked release.
Is the advancement icon its reward?
No. The icon comes from the display definition. Any explicit reward appears in the reward field.
Why are Bedrock achievements separate?
Bedrock has a separate achievement system with its own objectives and eligibility rules. This collection covers Java advancements.
