GTA III's RC Toyz missions give Claude a stream of explosive RC Bandits and a short timer to destroy vehicles belonging to a specific Liberty City gang. Each challenge starts from a parked TOYZ van, rewards aggressive route planning, and contributes to 100% completion.

How RC Toyz missions work
Enter the parked TOYZ van at a mission location to take control of an explosives-rigged RC Bandit. Your target is a particular gang vehicle, and the goal is to destroy as many as possible before the two-minute timer expires. Detonate beside a target or drive into its wheels to trigger the explosion. When a Bandit is destroyed, another becomes available near the van, so the timer is the real limit.
The first successful run establishes a score. On later attempts, you must beat your previous high score for the replay to count as a success. Every target vehicle destroyed beyond that high score pays $1,000, making an excellent first result harder to surpass when you return.
Van locations, unlocks, and targets
- Diablo Destruction: The van is beside the northeastern apartment complex in Hepburn Heights, Portland. It becomes available after Luigi's Girls and targets Diablo Stallions.
- Mafia Massacre: The van is in Saint Mark's across from Momma's Restaurante. It becomes available after Luigi's Girls and targets Mafia Sentinels.
- Casino Calamity: The van is opposite Kenji's Casino in Torrington, Staunton Island. It becomes available after Last Requests and targets Yakuza Stingers.
- Rumpo Rampage: The van is around the corner from Claude's safehouse in Wichita Gardens, Shoreside Vale. It becomes available after A Drop in the Ocean and targets Hoods Rumpo XLs.
TOYZ is the brand on the vans that launch these activities, not the name of an additional gang-vehicle objective. The named Shoreside Vale challenge is Rumpo Rampage.
Practical demolition strategy
Complete the Portland challenges early if possible. Story progress can turn local gangs hostile to Claude, making the run to a van and the area around it more dangerous even though the RC activity itself remains available.
Once the timer starts, stay inside the target gang's territory so its signature vehicles keep appearing. Look for grouped cars when possible, since a well-placed explosion can damage more than one target. Avoid spending most of the timer chasing a single vehicle across district boundaries.
A fresh Bandit appears near the parked van after an explosion. Ease away from the spawn point before accelerating hard, especially at Casino Calamity, where careless movement can send the RC car straight into the van's wheel. The toys are replaceable; the clock is less forgiving.
These side activities are not required for story progression and remain playable after the campaign. Winning them earlier is usually easier because gang hostility increases as Claude's alliances change.
FAQ
How do you start an RC mission in GTA III?
Enter the parked TOYZ van assigned to the challenge. Claude remains at the van while you control an explosive RC Bandit against the local target vehicles.
Are RC Toyz missions required for 100% completion?
Yes. Clear each named gang-vehicle challenge for full completion. They are optional for the main story and can still be played after the campaign.
How long does an RC Toyz mission last?
The demolition timer runs for two minutes. New RC Bandits become available after each explosion, so use the time to find and destroy as many target gang vehicles as possible.
How do GTA III RC mission rewards work?
A successful first run establishes your high score. On a replay, you must exceed that score, and each additional target vehicle destroyed beyond it awards $1,000.
Is TOYZ a separate RC mission?
No. TOYZ is the branded van that starts the RC Bandit activities. The actual mission names are Diablo Destruction, Mafia Massacre, Casino Calamity, and Rumpo Rampage.
When should you complete the RC missions?
Complete them soon after reaching the required district if convenient. They do not expire, but later story events can make gangs hostile and turn travel around their territory into a much rougher trip.
