Used casually, they are convenient. Used at the right moment, they can save a lot of time.
The current potion pool covers several useful needs: healing, damage, movement, mining speed, and luck. Most players meet these through Maria's Shop, which makes potions one of the easiest systems to understand but also one of the easiest to waste.
