How to use the phone in Roblox Gakuran

Updated on July 28, 2026 (about 1 hour ago)

Left Alt pulls out your phone in Gakuran. Press it again and your student puts it away.

That little flip phone is the entire social layer of the game. Contacts, calls, messages, a public board, music, your yen and six minigames all sit behind that one key.

How to use the phone in Roblox Gakuran

Press Left Alt to open the phone, then Enter to reach the menu

If nothing happens, check which key you are actually hitting. T is the most common mix-up, and it pulls out your fighting style instead, which is a whole separate system with its own reroll rules.

Keybinds can move around. If Alt genuinely does nothing, open the in-game control list and see what the phone is bound to. Alt also sits in the wider Gakuran control list next to movement and combat.

The first screen you get is not the apps. It is a flip-phone home face: a clock, the in-game date, the carrier at the top reading ドコモ (Docomo), a ▼ MENU button, and three soft keys along the bottom labelled MSG, OK and TEL.

Press Enter, or pick OK, and the app menu opens. From there:

  • Arrow keys move the highlight.
  • Enter or OK selects.
  • Backspace or BACK goes back a screen.
  • Number keys pick numbered options.
  • The arrows drawn on the phone work too if you would rather click.

Two things are worth knowing before you start browsing. Anyone standing near you can read your screen, so scrolling the public board is a public activity.

The other one costs you fights. Holding the phone parks your character in place, so put it away before a scrap starts rather than halfway through one.

What every app on the phone does

The menu is 12 apps in two columns of six. Reading across the rows:

AppWhat it does
MESSAGESYour text conversations with saved contacts.
DIALType a number in by hand and call it.
CONTACTSYour saved list, where you rename or delete people.
RECENTSYour recent call log.
GAMESSix built-in minigames.
INFORMATIONYour own phone number, for when someone asks.
SOCIALINKThe quick way to swap numbers with a player standing next to you.
MIXIA public board the whole server can read.
JAPANIFYThe music app.
CAMERAPhotos of your character.
YENAPPYour yen balance and a log of what you spent and received.
WEATHERThe current in-game weather.

GAMES is the one that quietly eats an afternoon. It holds Snake, Flappybird, 2048, Pong, Spaceshooter and Breakout. Since nearby players can see your screen, head-to-head high-score runs work without either of you handing anything over.

JAPANIFY splits music into liked songs, playlists, all songs, artists, recents and search. The heart on the left likes a track, the loop beside it repeats, and the crossed arrows on the right shuffle. Search only matches song names, so typing an artist gets you nowhere.

CAMERA just takes photos of your character, which is more fun once you have wandered out to one of the game's map locations instead of posing at the school gates.

Swap numbers with Socialink, then message from any server

Socialink is the normal way to add someone. It needs both of you in the same spot, and it takes seconds.

  1. Stand next to the player. Socialink only works on someone who is right there.
  2. Both of you open SOCIALINK. Their number appears on your screen once you are both in the app.
  3. Add them, or call the number. Adding saves them straight away, and calling drops the number into RECENTS so you can save it after.
  4. Tidy the entry in CONTACTS. Renaming and deleting live there, not in Socialink.

Already have someone's number written down? DIAL is the manual route. Punch it in and call.

Then comes the part that makes the phone worth carrying. Messages and calls, voice or not, reach your contacts even when they are in a different server. No Roblox friend request, no waiting for them to join yours.

MIXI is the loud version of the same idea. Post to the whole server, like other posts, and comment with the top-right button on the keyboard. There is no dislike button and no delete button, so read your post twice before you send it.

FAQ

Q.

Do I need to unlock the phone in Gakuran?

No. Every student has one from the moment you spawn in. There is nothing to buy, find or equip first.

Q.

Can I make my own playlist in Japanify?

Not right now. You can name a playlist, but it will not save, so liked songs and the built-in lists are what you actually keep.

Q.

What is yen actually good for?

Not a lot yet. YENAPP tracks your balance and logs what came in and went out, but yen mostly serves roleplay rather than unlocking anything big.

Q.

How do I give someone my number if they are not standing next to me?

Open INFORMATION to read your own number and share it however you like. They can then type it into DIAL. Socialink needs you both in the same place.
