Phasmophobia is a co-op horror game where a team of players investigates a haunted location, gathers evidence and works out which ghost is there. That location is called a map, and the game offers many of them, from a small house to a sprawling mental institution. The map you pick sets how much ground your team has to search and how far you have to walk between rooms and the van, so it shapes the whole hunt.

Small, medium and large Phasmophobia maps
Maps come in three sizes: small, medium and large. Size is about more than the number of rooms, though. Point Hope has about as many rooms as some small maps, but it stacks far more floors and is classed as medium.
Size changes how a hunt plays out. Small maps are the quickest to finish because the walk back to the van is short. Large maps ask more of your team, since you have to spread sensors across several wings to cover the ground.
How to unlock Phasmophobia maps
You don't get every map from the start. Most maps open as your account level rises, and your level goes up as you play. So a new player sees only some of the maps at first, and the rest open up over time. Sunny Meadows Mental Institution is the last to open, so the biggest hunt comes late.
What Restricted Phasmophobia maps are
Restricted maps are shorter versions of bigger locations, built for quicker games in places players already know. Sunny Meadows Restricted came first, and Prison, Brownstone High School and Point Hope later got Restricted versions too.
The Phasmophobia maps players fear most
Sunny Meadows Mental Institution is the map players dread most. It has the most rooms of any map, and they're spread across several wings. Brownstone High School is also large, with long corridors and big shared spaces like the gym.
Prison is often argued to be the toughest medium map, and the layout is the reason. It has the most rooms of any medium map, and its key areas sit far apart with little cover between them. If one of the big ones feels like too much at first, the Restricted versions cut the ground down.
FAQ
Which Phasmophobia map should a new player start with?
6 Tanglewood Drive is treated as a beginner map. It's a small house, and it was one of the very first maps added to the game, so it gives you less ground to search while you learn how a hunt runs.
Which Phasmophobia map has the most floors?
Point Hope has the most floors of any map. It's built as a tall lighthouse, and any of its floors can serve as the ghost's room, so the ghost may be on any level.
How big are the Restricted Phasmophobia maps?
It depends on the map. Prison Restricted and Point Hope Restricted count as small maps, while Brownstone High School Restricted counts as medium. So the Restricted versions don't all fall into the same size group.
Does a Restricted Phasmophobia map always look the same?
No. Prison Restricted and Brownstone High School Restricted each have several layouts, and one is picked at random when a contract loads. Point Hope Restricted is the exception, with a single fixed layout that only opens up as far as the dining room.
