Work buildings are the workplaces of your village in Medieval Dynasty. Villagers use them to chop wood, dig up stone and clay, hunt, farm, raise animals, and craft tools, clothing and meals. Storage buildings are part of the same system, holding what the rest produce until you need it. Keep them staffed and supplied, and your village can feed itself and keep its tools in working order.

How to assign villagers to work buildings
Every work building follows the same loop. You build it, assign a villager to it, and keep it stocked with what it needs. Villagers take the tools and materials they need from the building's own chest first, then from storage, so a building that runs out of supplies stops working, even with someone assigned to it.
You make assignments in the Management tab, and you can start from either the building or the villager. Farm and craft jobs need one more step, because you pick what the building makes in the assignments tab. Spread your villagers across the buildings you need most so that every one of them is running.
What work buildings need: tools, seeds and storage
Work takes tools, and tools wear out with use. When one breaks, it can't be repaired, so you have to craft or buy a new one. Keep spares on hand, in the building's chest or in your storage. Tools made from better metal tend to last longer, so they're worth making once you can.
Farm work needs its own stock. Field workers plow, plant and harvest, so keep plenty of seeds and grain in the barn's chests.
Storage ties the whole village together. Resource Storage and Food Storage each keep one shared inventory across every building of their type. Food goes into Food Storage, and materials like logs and stone go into Resource Storage.
How work buildings feed each other
Most goods pass through more than one building before they're useful. Raw materials come first: logs from the woodshed, stone, limestone and clay from the excavation shed, and meat and leather from the hunting lodge. The barn then turns crops into grain, flour and fertilizer, while animal shelters supply eggs, milk, manure and wool.
Those goods feed the crafting buildings. The sewing hut makes clothing and linen from wool and flax, the kitchen cooks meals from several ingredients, and the tavern makes juices, beers and wines. The herbalist hut makes potions and remedies, and the workshop makes wooden items. The smithy makes the tools your workers depend on, and the well supplies the village with water.
How work buildings unlock and upgrade
Work buildings unlock as your village earns points. You earn them by building and upgrading structures, and by crafting at the workshop, smithy, sewing hut, kitchen and tavern. More complex buildings pay out more, and each unlock opens new buildings and crafting recipes.
Many work buildings come in tiers, such as Woodshed II and Barn II, so you'll see upgraded versions as you progress. Resource Storage and Food Storage also hold more as their tiers rise, so it's worth upgrading them as production grows.
Which work buildings to build first
A good opening is a Resource Storage and a Food Storage, since most buildings send their output to storage. That gives your early workers somewhere to put what they make as soon as it starts coming in.
Next comes the woodshed, because a lot of early builds use logs. Food is the next priority, since hunting and farming supply it, so the hunting lodge and a farm shed with its barn come after that. The smithy comes once your first tools start to wear out.
How to unlock and build the Mine
The Mine is the late-game work building, and you won't have one from the start. You build it at a cave entrance, and until it's in place, villagers can't work inside the cave. It takes a lot of Building technology to unlock, so it usually comes well into the game.
The Mine is how villagers bring in iron ore and salt, so it's the building that keeps a growing smithy supplied. Ore has to be smelted into bars at the smithy before you can use it.
FAQ
Why is a villager not working at a building?
Work through three checks in order. First, open the building in the Management tab and confirm a villager is assigned to it. Next, check that farm and craft buildings have a job picked in the assignments tab. Last, make sure the tools and supplies it needs are in its chest or in your storage.
Where do work buildings put what they make?
Goods go into your storage buildings first, and only into the work building's own chest once storage is full. If that chest keeps filling up, your storage has run out of room, so add another Resource Storage or Food Storage, whichever matches what's piling up. Each storage building you add raises the total room in its shared inventory.
