Foundation is a medieval city-builder where you lay out your town however you like and look after the villagers who live in it. Its achievements are goals you reach while playing, such as owning territories, enacting a privilege, or growing a large population.

How Foundation achievements work
Each Foundation achievement is tied to one specific goal in your town, and it unlocks as soon as you reach that goal. There's no separate task to finish, because the goals come from the way you build, trade, and run your realm. In that sense, the achievements act as a record of how far your town has come.
How to unlock Foundation achievements
The goals sort into three groups. Population goals come from how large your town grows, money goals come from coins and taxes, and the rest come from trade, buildings, privileges, and military missions. The early goals come up first as your town takes shape, while bigger ones, like owning a large number of territories, need a much larger town and realm. The surest path is to keep your town growing steadily rather than rushing toward them.
Which Foundation achievements are the hardest
Some achievements are hard because of the rules you play under. Before each new game, you choose a ruleset, and Challenge is the difficult one. Classic plays the game as it was intended and suits a first playthrough, Casual keeps the challenge light, and Creative removes the economic limits so you can focus on building. Custom lets you set each rule yourself.
Achievements marked Challenge rules or harder only unlock when you play on Challenge, or on custom rules that are at least that tough. Examples include Steel and Stone and First Growth in the base game, and Feast of Abundance and I 'ave 'un! in the Harvest Festival set. If you're aiming for them, choose Challenge when you start the game.
Others are hard because the goal itself is demanding. Late goals like a Grade 3 military mission or collecting 5,000 tax coins in a single month need a large town and a lot of patience.
Harvest Festival achievements in Foundation
The Harvest Festival expansion brings its own set of achievements, built around a new festival system. Festivals are hosted in Festival Grounds attached to the tavern, and each one can ask for a meal, a drink, entertainment, or invitations. Jugglers, minstrels, and actors are among the performers who help keep the crowd entertained.
Food gets a lot of attention in this set. You'll grow cabbages on cabbage farms and make pastries at a bakery, alongside crops like turnips and hazelnuts. The Monastic Croft is a new building at the monastery, and it also unlocks a Turnip Garden.
The Granary of the Realm aspiration, a longer set of food and festival goals, pulls these together. Other goals are built around a Theatre Troupe, so the set covers both feeding and entertaining your village at its festivals.
FAQ
Do I need Harvest Festival to get every Foundation achievement?
No. The base game achievements can be earned without the expansion. The Harvest Festival achievements need the expansion, and the expansion itself requires the base game, so you need both to get the full set.
What do I need to do for Feast of Abundance?
Finish the Granary of the Realm aspiration on Challenge rules or harder. Its goals include making your settlement a hub of food production, producing a wide range of rustic and refined foods, building a Fountain of the Great Harvest, and hosting a Harvest Festival with the king and his court.
How do I start a game on Challenge rules?
After you generate your map, the setup asks you to choose a ruleset. Pick Challenge from the presets, or pick Custom and set the rules yourself, keeping them at least as hard as Challenge.
