The Isle Evrima is a survival game where you play as a dinosaur living in the wild, not a person. You start small and vulnerable, then grow into an adult by eating the right food and staying alive. Every species falls into one of three diet groups: carnivores that hunt meat, herbivores that eat plants, and omnivores that eat both. Your species shapes how you find food, how you fight and how fast you grow, so it helps to learn the basics before you choose one.

Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores Explained
Every dinosaur belongs to one of three diet groups, and that group decides where it finds food and how it fights. Carnivores hunt animals and other dinosaurs, and they can also pick at corpses. Herbivores live on plants and fruit, while omnivores can eat both plants and meat.
Your diet group is the first thing to check, because it tells you what to hunt or forage and what kind of fight you're built for. Carnivores are made for hunting and taking down prey, while herbivores rely more on defenses and speed. Omnivores fall somewhere in between, and having two food sources can make them easier to keep fed.
How Diet Controls Growth
Eating in The Isle Evrima is about more than staying full. Each species has a short list of preferred foods, and eating them builds up three nutrients: protein, fats and carbohydrates. Food that is off your list does much less for growth, so it's worth going out of your way for the right kind.
Aim to keep all three nutrients up. A balanced diet grows you at full rate, while missing nutrients slow you down, so it pays to hunt or forage for the right food rather than whatever is closest.
Herbivores get their nutrients from the plants on their list, with each plant feeding a different nutrient. Omnivores can draw from both plants and meat, which gives them more ways to cover all three.
Growing From Juvenile to Adult
You start as a juvenile, small and vulnerable, and you grow by eating your preferred food. Your growth bar fills as you do, and each time it fills you move up to the next stage until you reach adulthood. Growth speed also varies by species, so some dinosaurs reach adulthood much sooner than others.
How Fights Work in The Isle Evrima
Size shapes a fight. Bigger dinosaurs usually have more health, while smaller ones are quicker and easier to slip away with. Fights come down to a mix of bleed, stamina and positioning rather than one number.
Stamina is often just as important as health. Once it runs out, you can no longer sprint away, so keep some in reserve for when you need to run. Sprinting uses it up quickly, so it's worth watching the bar as closely as your health.
Apex Predators and Dangerous Dinosaurs
Apex predators are the top hunters in the game. Tyrannosaurus is a heavy hitter with slow but deadly bites, and its Crush attack lets it grab prey. Its slower movement leaves it open to pack attacks and to quicker hunters like Carnotaurus.
Deinosuchus has a clear edge in water, where it grabs prey from the shallows and drags it under. Allosaurus is known for bleeding a target that keeps running, so a fight can keep draining health after the chase.
Large herbivores can be dangerous too. Triceratops is huge and leads with horns that can knock attackers down, so predators are better off wearing it down with bleed than meeting it head-on. Stegosaurus defends with its tail spikes, which punish anyone who dives in carelessly.
Best Dinosaurs for Beginners
Start with a smaller dinosaur, learn the map and the systems, and move up to apex predators later. Jumping straight into a big predator means dealing with the hardest systems at once, so a herbivore or omnivore is the easier start.
Dryosaurus and Hypsilophodon make easy first picks. Both are small, quick herbivores built around evasion rather than fighting, so they're good for practicing the basics.
FAQ
Why are carnivores harder to play at first?
Carnivores stack several systems on top of combat: the diet system, hunting, bleeding and general survival pressure. Learning all of them at once is what makes the early hours feel crowded.
Which dinosaur is good for speed?
Gallimimus is a good pick if speed is what you want. As an omnivore, it can outrun most threats while you learn the map. Among predators, Carnotaurus is known for speed, but it turns poorly, so overly aggressive chases can backfire.
How do I see which food my dinosaur needs?
Press Tab in game to open your dinosaur's information. The Preferred Food section lists the foods your species needs, so you know what to look for.
