Killer Samurai from Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Buy this Killer Samurai shirt based on Hokusai's classic Watanabe no Gengo Tsuna with HD art from Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. About the art: Like his master, Watanabe was a historical warrior whose real-life adventures took on mythological dimensions in later legends. He is especially famous for his battle with the Ibaraki demon at Rashomon Gate in Kyoto, in which he cut off the demon's arm. Later, he joined Raiko and the other retainers in demon-killing expeditions against supernatural monsters. Although Hokusai included many designs featuring noted warriors from Japanese and Chinese history in book illustrations and deluxe surimono prints, the untitled series of five prints of which this work is a part is his only known commercial print series in the genre of warrior prints (musha-e).
