Save a template before decorating
Applying a trim consumes the template. Duplication needs an existing template, diamonds and the matching block. Keeping a spare lets you make another copy when you want the same design on more equipment.
Separate color from pattern
The template determines the pattern and the trim material supplies the color. Neither changes the armor protection attributes. Acquisition methods describe possible structure rewards, archaeology finds or drops, rather than guaranteed results from every attempt.

Can a trim improve a weak armor material?
No. Trims are cosmetic. Choose armor for its protection properties before decorating it.
