How to revive the Mother Tree and plant acorns in 99 Nights in the Forest

Updated on February 2, 2026 (2 days ago)

If you’ve reached the Fairy Biome in 99 Nights in the Forest, you’ve probably seen the giant, dying Mother Tree at its center. Reviving this tree is a fresh quest that mixes fighting, exploring, and planting acorns. Let me guide you through the exact steps to bring the Mother Tree back to life and claim some powerful rewards.

You need to unlock the Fairy Biome first

To start, you must unlock the Fairy Biome where the Mother Tree lives. Upgrade your campfire to level 2 to access this area. After the January 19, 2026 update, the Mother Tree reliably appears once your campfire reaches level 3 or higher. Also, upgrading your map to level 3 reveals the tree icon near your spawn point: level 4 makes it even clearer.

The Fairy Biome stands out with its blue-green grass, mushroom circles, brightwood trees, and glowing boulders. You’ll also find the Fairy’s shop relocated here and some familiar structures like child caves. The key enemies here are the Acorn Wolves, which come in Mushroom or Fairy variants. These wolves drop the acorns you’ll need.

Collect acorns by defeating Acorn Wolves

Acorns are your main resource for reviving the Mother Tree. Every Acorn Wolf you defeat in the Fairy Biome drops an acorn 100% of the time. You can also find acorns near glowing plants, but farming the wolves is the fastest way.

These wolves are fast and hit hard, so come prepared with plenty of bandages and good weapons. Since the number of acorns needed depends on how you reconnect the roots, it’s smart to farm at least 20 acorns before you start planting.

How to plant acorns and revive the Mother Tree

At the center of the Fairy Biome, you’ll see the Mother Tree with broken roots reaching toward glowing pools of enchanted water. Your job is to plant acorns at glowing root tips to reconnect these roots to the pools.

Here’s how to do it step-by-step:

  1. Open your inventory and select an acorn.
  2. Walk close to a glowing root tip near the tree.
  3. Press and hold E to plant the acorn. The root will instantly grow toward the pool.
  4. Repeat this for all glowing root tips until all three roots connect to different enchanted pools. Using the same pool twice won’t count.

Some roots need more than one acorn to fully grow, so plan your planting carefully to avoid crossing roots or wasting acorns. A stone tablet near the tree shows a diagram that hints at this mechanic.

A few tips to make planting easier

  • Identify the locations of the three enchanted pools first.
  • Assign each root to a different pool; reusing pools won’t revive the tree.
  • Use short root extensions for nearby pools and longer ones for distant pools to save acorns.
  • If holding E doesn’t register, try moving slightly and try again.
  • Farm extra acorns before planting to avoid frustration.

What you get when the Mother Tree is revived

Once all roots are connected, you’ll see a message saying "The giant tree has been revived" and earn the "Botany" award. A unique blue chest appears at the tree’s base. Inside, you’ll always find an Enchanted Farm Tablet plus one of these rare items:

  • Strong Axe
  • Morningstar
  • Gem of the Forest Fragment
  • Rifle
  • Giant Sack
  • Cultist Gem

These rewards can seriously boost your gameplay, especially the Enchanted Farm Tablet.

Reviving the Mother Tree is a great mix of combat and light puzzle-solving that breaks the usual forest grind. It’s close to the start, so once your campfire and map are upgraded, don’t skip this quest. With some patience and planning, you’ll have the Mother Tree thriving again and your inventory filled with valuable gear.
